“Social Robots, Healthcare & Therapy: Societal needs and the industrial perspective” – Presented by Amit Kumar Pandey, SoftBank Robotics Europe, at HealthTech Event, Dec 08, 2016, at High Tech Campus Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

Social Robots with their intelligent perception, reasoning and interaction capabilities are becoming part of our everyday life towards healthier, smarter and more entertaining lifestyle and ecosystem. The talk will reinforce that the humanoid robots have a range of potential societal applications, and that as a robotics industry, SoftBank Robotics R&D and Innovation is around the centrality of wellbeing of people. The first part of the talk will illustrate some of such use cases for humanoid robot companion. The second part will highlight some of the research directions and results towards achieving such social humanoid robot companion. And last part will present the feedback from real users and conclude by pointing some ethical issues and the grand challenges ahead.

About Amit Kumar Pandey
He is the Head Principal Scientist (Chief Scientist) and Scientific Coordinator of Collaborative Projects at SoftBank Robotics (formerly Aldebaran Robotics), Paris, France. He previously worked as AI & Robotics researcher at LAAS-CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research), Toulouse, France. He is the founding coordinator of Socially Intelligent Robots and Societal Applications (SIRo-SA) Topic Group of euRobotics (the European Union Robotics Community). He is also recipient of prestigious Georges Giralt Award (2nd prize) for the best Ph.D. Theses in Robotics in Europe and  Pravashi Bihari Samman Puruskar, for Science, Technology and Education by the state of Bihar, India.
